How to Change Properties of Annotations in Camtasia
When you add annotations to your Camtasia project — callouts, arrows, shapes, or highlights — you can customise nearly every visual property. Here’s how to change the colour, size, opacity, outline, text font, and more.
Accessing Annotation Properties
Once you place an annotation on the canvas from the Annotations tab, select it and look at the Properties panel on the right side. In Camtasia 2020+, you’ll see three tabs:
- Clip — controls the overall opacity, scale, rotation, and position of the annotation
- Annotation-specific tab — controls the shape, fill colour, outline colour/thickness, and other visual properties
- Text — if the annotation contains text (like a callout), this controls font, size, colour, and alignment

What You Can Customise
- Shape — choose from speech bubbles, rounded rectangles, arrows, and more
- Fill — solid colour, or set to none for an outline-only look
- Opacity — make the annotation semi-transparent
- Outline — add a border with custom colour and thickness
- Text properties — font, size, colour, bold, italic, alignment
