How to restore the audio points on a videoclip in Camtasia after Silence Audio

Have you lost your audio in Camtasia? How to restore the audio that you silenced - three methods to bring back or unmute the audio stream on a clip that has been muted or that you have used 'Silence audio' on.

In this quick tip video I show you how to restore your audio in Camtasia, on any clip on your timeline. There are more ways to do it and just be warned: this will reset all audio points on that clip. So if you have created other audio points on a clip and want to preserve them, before you apply this, cut the clip before (or after) the points you want to keep. Then apply this to the other part of the clip.

On your timeline, Camtasia makes it a little hard to find how to bring your audio back. Also the audio points are very hard to grab and handle when they are muted or reduced to minimum volume. You need perfect mouse accuracy to get to them. But here I show you three ways to bring them back.

Hello, this is Cristi from Graphicious. Thank you for joining me. Today I have a quick tip for you for Camtasia. If you have removed the audio or you have silenced the audio from a video clip on your timeline and you don't know how to bring it back, this is for you. I had a question on the YouTube channel about this. Someone asked what to do if they have silenced the audio for a clip and they didn't know how to bring it back.

So there are multiple ways to do this, and I know Camtasia doesn't make this very straight forward in the interface. So let's have a look at how to do this. I'm going to bring in a video that I edited earlier and you will see that it has audio, of course.

And now if you sometimes, you know, you right-click on it and say, Silence Audio, like this, or you press SHIFT+S. Now the audio is gone, you don't see the wave form anymore, but let's say that maybe you change your mind, you want to bring it back, maybe you want to see what it was or use it now. So if you right-click on this you know, you have Silence Audio, but you don't have Bring audio back. You can't do that. You can click Edit audio, which again, it's not going to do anything, it's just going to switch the waveform, but you don't see that one because it's right at the bottom. So what you can do is, the most straightforward way is to select your clip and just go to the Modify menu and go to Remove, All Audio Points.

Now, just to make sure you understand this, if you have actually changed the audio to make different audio points so that you will change the level across your clip, this is going to remove those. So if you haven't actually silenced your entire clip, but just portions of it because you've used the volume controls or the audio points to make the volume louder or softer in some areas, if you choose this option, it's going to remove all of those. So if you don't want to lose those, maybe cut the clip, split the clip, and then leave the part that you want to bring back. But anyway, I'm going to just show you now for the entire clip. Click this, Remove, All audio points. And now this is it, my waveform is back.

So what I was saying earlier, if you double-click on the line here to create an audio point, this is the same thing. You know, if I double-click again to create  more audio points and I silence this area, and maybe I silence this area at the end, if I want to bring that back then obviously you can put your mouse right down here and you notice the mouse changes to up and down arrows.

If you click on that, it's going to raise the audio points. So the only thing at the bottom of the clip here, is the, actually the audio line.

So if I right-click again, this is the second method. If I right click again and say Silence audio, or I press SHIFT and S and I don't see this instead of going to that menu that I just showed you, you can just move your mouse very carefully at the bottom here. It may be hard to see and just click and move it up. So there it is. Your audio line is back. So this is one method to bring back the audio, if it's right at the bottom. I know this should be easier, and maybe Techsmith's going to review this in , you know, future versions of Camtasia, but until then, this is how to do it.

So just to show you another way. If you have this audio down here or let's silence the entire audio like this, again, I'm not using the first or the second method. If you zoom in very closely, if you look very closely here on the bottom left, there's a little bit of green. Now this is up to your screen resolution and your mouse accuracy, but actually that right there in the corner, that little green thing is an audio point. So if I click there, look, I see it, I see the audio point, I can drag it and raise it up. The problem is this is going to just pull that audio point up and the rest of the audio is going to kind of go down, so you're going to need to have to, you know, pull the other ones, and it's not very accurate, but you know. Right-click on this, Silence Audio, the easiest way, just Modify, Remove, All audio points for that selected video.

There it is. I hope this helps, if you get stuck like this. Thank you for watching. And if you haven't subscribed to my channel, make sure you subscribe now.

And if you don't have Camtasia, by the way, I showed you this in Camtasia 2021. If you have not upgraded to Camtasia, I recommend you do it. It's got many new features and if you don't instead buy Camtasia but you buy the maintenance plan that will give you the next version when it comes out next year, usually sometime in April, I think it comes out with a new version. So thanks again for watching. See you on the next one.
